The other night I was quietly reading my veterinary journal in the pet ER, when all of a sudden I heard âTriage stat to the parking lot with a gurney!â.
This announcement always makes my heart sink. It means that there is a dog that has arrived that can't walk and is too big to carry.
Two minutes later, our awesome vet techs come rushing into the treatment area with an 89 lb Rottweiler. This poor soul had just been hit by a car and had multiple lacerations and head trauma as well as a broken hind leg.
Later that morning, another dog that had been vomiting for two days came in. She was sooo adorable and sad.Â
She was dehydrated with pain in her belly. X-rays were taken which ultimately showed that she had a bowel obstruction.
During surgery, several pieces of dog bedding were removed from her stomach and small intestine. She was kept in the hospital for several days until she was eating and drinking again without trouble.Â
The owner reported that she had separation anxiety and would destroy her bedding when upset.
